L.A. GIGOLO (2009) är en film om mästernupparen Nikki, som får alla brudar han pekar på. Kutcher gör här en roll egentligen ingen man skulle tacka nej till. Han framställs som en man som kan få precis alla tjejer han vill, han är lugn, han är ball, han är lite småhäftig. Tyvärr får man sällan ut en riktigt bra skådespelarprestation ur sådana här roller, eftersom det egentligen handlar om en kille, som egentligen inte har några direkta brister. Med tiden presenterar man ändå Nikkis problem och visar att han inte enbart är en man som får alla tjejer och lever i lyx. Han är pank och han har ingen plats att kalla sitt hem. Tyvärr är Kutcher inte så mycket av en skådespelare, där hans roll som den dinga Michael Kelso i That '70s Show (1998) egentligen är den allra bästa, och David Mackenzie väljer att inte riktigt djupdyka i karaktären. Här har vi en kille som har stora sociala förmågor, tydligen, men som inte klarar av en av de viktigaste delarna i vuxenlivet och livet överhuvudtaget: att ha jobb, att ha ett hem och hitta någon att bosätta sig med. Det finns definitivt en chans till något i denna handling, men det blir ganska platt, småhäftigt och tomt, med en massa nakenscener här och där.
Det känns som att visionen hos en filmskapare alltid ska vara ett berätta något, eller på något sätt förmedla något till publiken. Ibland funkar det att bara göra en allmänt cool film, men då är det ofta andra element i filmen som lyfter upp. L.A. Gigolo har en hyfsad handling, sådär skådespelare och fina miljöer, men det blir liksom bara en sån där film som hamnar på hyllan i hyrbutiken och sen glöms bort. En berättelse om en misslyckad kvinnokarl i Los Angeles skulle kunna bli intressant och känsloväckande, men resultatet blir mest att visa hur ball Nikki är och lite nakna brudar här och var.
